My grandpa used to take us there for dinner when I was a kid. He knows the old man boss very well.

Fatty Weng, Guillemard Rd, Singapore​

Fatty Weng is indeed a Singapore institution. This place at 89 Guillemard Rd has been around for a very long time. After getting pretty bored of all the "zichars"(coffeeshop restaurants) that have popped up serving similar Hong Kong Street food I needed to get an authentic "zichar" fix really bad. I craved; Fatty Weng delivered.

The problem is the young working people want to eat in AC place with nice decor and ambience. Fatty Weng Seong looks like an Ah Beng simply install AC and call it modern. It is no longer enough to rely on just legendary cooking skill

If biz is very good do you think the owners will close? No, they will sell franchise and name for top dollar, take a step back and shake leg. As it is, they only attract tourists and foreign aircrew, so cannot make biz case. Also the name Fatty is not politically correct for current times. Even fat people won't eat there coz it is such a stigma. Kentucky Fried Chicken changed name to KFC coz 'fried' has all kinds of connotations.

So what to do? Graciously say no successor and disappear lah.

Yan Palace's boss, Jimmy Ng, is my friend. I get a discount on the bill every time I bring my clients there. Sadly, he kicked the bucket last year. Haven't been there since.
