This old man always think he has got everything right. That what he do is always right because he know what is good for HIS Singapore. That is his problem.
But there is no one lackey of his willing to tell him he is wrong. Because they like collecting the fat pay checks. For that they simply have to keep quiet and shake head in mock approval.
No doubt there are many good discussions in the secrecy covered cabinet meetings. Discussions about economic, social, housing, employment and other matters regarding the country.
But there is on topic which is out of bounds for all. It is to question the political system the Old Fart has put in place for Singapore. Mind you. This system is not his genious invention. It is a system that he tinkered and fiddled with and fine tuned to what it is today.
What is seriously wrong here, was his primary objective for doing it. To find a political system that can work best without involving the people, or making the government open, transparent and accountable, with the usual show of a parliament and a judiciary court. This objective, was what was wrong with the political system he has put in place for Singapore. He call it meritocracy and elitism. A mega bullshit in the making.
Old Fart has made some very serious mistakes before. The 2 child policy. But he alwasy claim that 8 out of 10 times he is right. If his claims are true, even one mistake is disastrous. Look at the millions of foreigners he have to import now. Look at the mess.
Therefore ask ourselves this question. What if this Meritocracy and elitism policy around which he has built the political system in Singapore. What if this turns out to be a big mistake ? - A colossal mistake.
It is a big mistake from the start. If you buy people to serve you, then that loyalty you bought has a higher loyalty. That higher loyalty is money itself.
Elites and meritocrats are simply useless people. They just got high grades in the universities performing well to man made curriculum. These people cannot be creative or innovative. When they are immersed into a cozy system with high pay, soon they develop beer bellies and a know all arrogance. More importantly they become redundant by trying to make themselves look relevant. ! They become ordinary charlatans with the same greed, avarice and disconnected from the rest of the people.
That causes infighting, jealousy, ego clashes and the whole system collapses when the big leader kicks the bucket.
That is the legacy the old fart has cursed Singapore with. A system that was created for his objectives. Not Singapore's long term objective.
Sadly, he can see the result even before his death. He need his son, his daughter in law and other relatives as a loyalty buffer. Imagine a country that has such a political system that it needs relatives and kids to maintain its government ? It just cannot work beyond a certain period. It simply is unsustainable.
Old Fart biggest mistake is this. But he has no choice but do what he did.
The next generation of Singaporeans will have to live with this blunder or pay the price.
