Looks like this hawker centre has become the place for refugees from the other hawker centres. Wonder if it is the cost of the high rentals or the closures of the other hawker centres

I used to visit the hawker centre at High Street next to the central fire station for the kwey tiau, wanton mee, sour lemon juice,.... but it was closed even though it was so popular . It was rumoured that it was closed because too many people were eating there & not at the other expensive places around the area.

Quite true as the plot of land that high street HC once stood on is still empty with no development.

No telling how many cheap hawker centres became victims of the predatory PAP. PAP has a very limited view when it comes to city development e.g. malls=$$$

In the case of Funan, they will be closing for renovations because of poor business. It is really not surprising because there's not much in that area except for some schools, museums, gov't offices, ...

If they had kept the hawker centre there, they would have had more visitors to that area because good food attracts people.
I also think the old National library would have attracted more people to that area. Without these attractions that area is pretty deserted.
