SINGAPORE: A minor oil spill occurred in the Straits of Singapore following a collision between Singapore-registered containership Kota Tenaga and Malta-registered Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) SEEB about 2.7 nautical miles south of Pulau Sebarok yesterday.
In a statement, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said it received a report on the collision at about 2100hrs (Singapore time) yesterday.
It said the master of Kota Tenaga reported that about five tonnes of marine fuel oil had spilled into the sea.
An inter-agency effort, coordinated by MPA, was immediately activated to contain and clean up the oil spill, the statement said, adding that the spill was contained and Kota Tenaga moved to Raffles Reserved Anchorage.
There was no report of injuries to crew members of both vessels. MPA is investigating the cause of the collision. -- BERNAMA
