SINGAPORE - Another oil spill has occurred on the roads, the third since Friday.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told The Straits Times on Tuesday (Feb 2) that it was alerted at 2.15pm to a spillage in Kampong Bahru Road, near the Sikh temple, in the direction of the Central Expressway.

The middle lane of the major arterial road remained closed as SCDF officers tried to clear the spill with water jets and solvents. But they were not successful, and the National Environment Agency was roped in.

NEA officers arrived at 4.30pm, and they too had limited success removing the "sticky substance". NEA has not yet said what it was.

Eventually, the Land Transport Authority had to resurface two lanes of the road. The police said it was still not fully opened at 8pm.

An LTA spokesman said: "LTA will reopen the affected lanes when resurfacing works are completed."

The Straits Times understands the vehicle that caused the latest spill left the scene.

On Monday (Feb 1), an oil spill on the Pan Island Expressway towards Changi after the Jurong Town Hall Road exit resulted in two lanes being closed to traffic for about four hours in the afternoon.

Last Friday (Jan 29), an oil spill on the Bukit Timah Expressway in the morning caused a massive traffic jam that affected both public and private transport users for several hours.

Both earlier incidents were caused by accidents involving oil carriers. And both incidents required tarmac on the affected stretches to be resurfaced.

Oil is so cheap in peesai now that it can be poured day in and day out.

Hale the great PAP for making Singapore so rich and prosperous.

There seems to be a theme, first we have the Palm Oil spillage...then oil? & then oil again.....so this Lunar New Year it will be, "年年有油", right? ha ha ha ha ha

We had few oil spills when oil was being peddled for US$80 a barrel. Oil must be cheap when oil carriers can afford to be careless. So, I don't know why sinkies are complaining about high petrol prices.

The bulk carries driver weren't carless....they are on the extreme left lane, & are driven at a prescribed speed ( unless they don't obey)...it is careless drivers that knock into them...as in the Palm Oil Bulk Carrier & the others......please specify what kind of oil?....engine oil, cooking oil, Petrol, Diesel or bunker fuel.....
