STOMPer david noticed the horrendous stench and environmental pollution from the oil slicks that had accumulate along East Coast beach as a result of Tuesday's oil spill.

He said:

"The whole beach is dirty and smelly

"The environmental personnels are here, but they seem to be taking photos

"I think we need to clean up this beach. This image is bad for Singapore."

KNN..can even smell the stench as far as Bedok Res last nite

happens once in 50 yrs only u know?
wheres that yacok fella?

the oil is brown in colour. its treated oil, that means the oil is mix with dispersant. it takes time to breakdown. even you use boats to run over it out at open sea to agitate it, it will still need time to break down. i think the MPA has did a good job cleaning up, only thing is our waters is too small to allow oil to break down before it hit the shore.

They should have a cap a 10 million dollars fine for damaging the environment .

They need to raise a security deposit of Sgd $6 -10 million to operate here .

what??? yacult said that??? if u look back, its 3 major in 50 yrs! 1997 and 2001 got major oil pollution too! i think our ministars really take millions a yr for doing nothing. maybe millions a yr are too much for them to handle as they will be busy thinking what to do with the money than to get the job done!

EFFORTS to clean up the oil spill resulting from Tuesday morning's collision between two large vessels continued onWedneday, as patches of slick reached parts of the Changi coastline early in the morning.

Through the day the coastline between the Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and Changi Naval Base, between National Sailing Centre and NSRCC-SAFRA Resort, were greeted with patches of oil slick.

Out at sea, efforts were ramped up to clean up the initial 4 sq km area of oil slick dumped 6km off the Changi coastline from spreading inland.

But this did not prevent the slick from reaching the eastern coastline.

As part of the containment efforts, some 19 craft and 120 personnel used bio-degradable dispersents to break up the oil slick into smaller globules and some 3,300 metres of containment booms used to contain the spill, said the Maritime Port Authority.

What's so surprising? When the FAPee TRAITORS kept saying it's under control through the 154th, we should know that they're LYING AGAIN. And as usual, the lack of preparation by the BEST PAID govt in the world in disaster handling is glaring.

wally rammed into the side of "no smoking" ....lucky it didn't sink that bloody no smoking tanker...

U are the only one that thinks they are doing a good job. U are an idiot. The first thing they should have done was deploy booms around the vessel to contain the oil spill. Failing which they need to boom off East Coast. dispersant is BS. Do you see any booms? They still have not found the best formula for dispersants after decades of research. U need another vessel to suck up the oil on the surface. We are one of the busiest ports in the world, and yet we are totally inadequate in this sort of operations. Good job my ass.

For two large ships to collide....somebody on watch duty is sleeping...:p

hahaha, r u in maritime industry or oil business??? if yes, is your business in sg??? pls be objective. dispersant is BS, so do oil booms. nothing is fool proof when such thing happened. sorry i got a few questions to ask u if u dont mind. so r u an expert in such clean up operation? u know what kind of supports and vessel available and the time took to deploy? pls dont blame those who are involving in the cleaning up operations, i mean MPA and other parties involve in the clean up. they are the ones who clean up the shit of those useless captains. if u want to blame, blame the captains of the both vessels.

when both vessel collided, for this case the port side hull of the tanker was ruptured. at that moment 2000 metric tonnes of fuel oil will flow into the sea even before the bow of the other vessel cant be separate from the tanker. at this moment, both are still underway. can you lay booms around the vessels? how long is east coast park? how many booms available in the region? once the oil flow into the sea, it will break into patches. make it harder to monitor and track down. plus the activities in the port and the TSS. dont forget the force of nature, the tidal streams and the wind. all this factors make it difficult for track down, contain and the clean up operations.

the collision took place at sea of johor and sg is not the one in charge of the case. indonesia also involve. so there are red tapes to overcome. so at local front, me think MPA and parties involve are doing a good job. in term of response and execution.

from you nick, i know u tulan pap. me too. so pls be objective and spare the rest. they are men on the ground working 24 hours for the clean up. i remember a ang mo expert on clean up from UK told me, its impossible to search for oil and do clean up at night. you can only do it during day time. he said if the oil has to hit the beach, let it be. but in sg, they even do it at night. idiot like me also know that they are doing a good job, how can a clever people like u cant see leh? :D

anyway i think there is a marine biologist mentioned that no clean up is required at all! just let it breakdown over times. i think its better this way than to waste time and money doing clean up.

Only numbnuts like you cannot see incompetence when its staring you in the face. U ask whether I am so clever, yes, as a matter of fact, I am. I wish you were too. U ask whether I know what kind of support or efforts are being made by the MPA to handle this situation. I don't know and I don't care. I don't know anyone in the marine agencies. But than I don't need to know people to see that a job is being fucked up by them. For example, I don't know any ICA people, but judging by the result of large numbers of prostitutes and other illegal FTs here, I can tell they are fucked up. Same for whoever is doing the clean up. WHen the spill reaches our shores, its fucked up already. GOT IT?

I don't mean lay booms around the vessels only. More importantly, booms should be around all the east coast beaches. You ask whether got so much booms in the region. That's not my problem. That is the MPA or the govt's problem. Its their job to prepare for this sort of accidents. We have a large portion of the world's tanker traffic going thru this area, as well we have oil refineries and and we are in an oil producing area. Does it need to be spelt out. Most people will tell you this is a small spill. If you cannot handle it, you are fucked. There should be at least 50km of booms stored for uses like this, if not more. They are using over a thousand km of booms in the BP spill now in the gulf of mexico. The tides, and winds are not uncharted and unmonitored here. The NEA could have predicted within an accuracy of a few hours when the slick will hit the shore. There was time to deploy the booms if we had them. Why don't you just call it for what it really is. Just say the whole effort was unco-ordinated. No agency warned the public to avoid the beaches. No booms deployed, no burning of the surface oil, no nothing. As for red tape, who gives a flying fuck? If the oil slick is drifting towards our shores, we better go into any other countries marine zone and fight it there. They don't want the damn oil in their territory either. If they are not happy, we have the biggest navy around. Whatare they going to do? Let be known internationally that they hindered a clean up effort over politics?

Your ang mo boyfriend marine biologist is another dumb cocksucker. Yes, over time, the oil will breakup. No doubt. Some will evaporate. But it takes time, sometimes, months. In the meantime, no one can enjoy the East Coast beaches, the fish farms are wiped out, the smell is making people sick, wild life is wiped out, etc . This is his solution, let nature take its course? WHat a moron. Bottom line is, its only a lousy 2000 ton spills, and they can't handle it. 100,000 tons spills are not uncommon. We will really be fucked than. Exxon Valdez was 1 million metric tons. You better pray 2 super tankers don't collide 15km from our shores. U should be the one that is subjective.

:D hi! thanks for taking my reply so seriously and im surprise that someone who is not involve in oil industry or local shipping line can speak with such involvement on this topic. i dont know about u having any ang mo bf or u ever suck any ang mo cock, but i have none b4 and dont intent to have 1.

there is a different between bystander, management and operation. its easy to criticize and code what u read from the internet.

u should do this or u should do that and i dont fuck care. or set standard like this is a small spill are typical remarks by a bystander who read a lot on it but not in the industry or specialize in it. technically, i can see that u code a lot from what u read. set fire on oil only use when they are heavy fuel oil or even crude oil due to dispersant cant break it down effectively and it takes a long time too. a lot of other things show that u dont possess in depth knowledge on this issue, so i wont waste my time here discussing with you. hope you understand. anyway, i think your criticism is good for local gov. hope ministry of transport will see your reply. but for me, if your standard is clever than i rather remain an idiot. thanks and good day. :)

papsmearer, you making anti-pap fellas look bad. don't just anyhow google and whack. dunno say dunno.you let your hatred come in the way of logic most times.

Look at my nick and you can see why I am speaking with so much "involvement" as you say. I am from the East Coast/Katong/Marine Parade area all my life. If this fucking oil landed on Sentosa, I wouldn't give a dogshit, but it landed on the East Coast beaches. I am pissed of because no one in the Govt. bothered to let people in the area know the beach is going to be contaminated, and to keep away. No one from MOH/NEA/MPA or any other cock agency despatch clean up crews to meet the slick when it reach landfall. Nor were there any booms deployed outside the East coast beaches. The 2 fucked up Captains have not even been arrested and detained. There has been no marine insurance agencies that insured these 2 fucked up ships that have stepped up and say they will pay for the cleanup and damages and inconvenience. I am pissed off because the lousy MPA deployed a measely 3.3km of booms and expect it to be solved? I am pissed off the govt. media is playing this down until people can smell the oil from their flats, before they actually start some coverage. Last of all, I am pissed of with idiots like you who say the MPA is doing a good job when thousands of people in the East coast will tell you that is bs.
