Li Bing Bing (left, AFP / Joe Klamar) has joined the cast of "Transformers 4".

LOS ANGELES: Paramount Pictures and “Transformers 4” director Michael Bay announced Monday that Chinese actress Li Bing Bing will join Mark Wahlberg and Nicola Peltz as part of the film’s cast.

"I am excited to have Li Bingbing join our cast and to be shooting portions of the movie in her native China.

“I have always aspired to work with the best actors and this cast is especially exciting now with the addition of Li," said Michael Bay in a media statement.

Li, who is best known for her performances in “Forbidden Kingdom” and more recently, “Resident Evil: Retribution” said in a statement that she is “thrilled” to work on the film, as “’Transformers’ has influenced generations in China and the movie franchise has a massive fan base”.

While many Chinese netizens have congratulated Li on snagging a role in a Hollywood blockbuster like “Transformers 4”, others believe casting her is a purely commercial move to make the film more palatable to Chinese audiences, and wondered if she will be a glorified extra in the film.

“Transformers 4” will be a co-production between US film giant Paramount Pictures, the state-run China Movie Channel along with Chinese streaming service provider Jiaflix.

The film is set four years after the war between the Autobots and Decepticons in “Transformers: Dark of the Moon”.

It is scheduled for release in June next year.

It's always towards the end of a successful movie franchise, in the 3rd, 4th, 5th installments that they slot all these extras in to boost box office receipts.

Jet Li in lethal weapon
Chow Yun Fatt in pirates of the Caribbean

How much more can you degrade the 'Transformers' movies when Michael Bay is already the director?

One of the shittiest directors in these times, another crap one is M. Night Shyamalan.

the transformers movie franchise is one of the worst since Police Academy.

They just want to bring in an ATB to boost viewership in Mainland. Alas, most mainland chinese will watch their movies on free streaming sites..

Talk about having a token yellow face,......wtf........at least still way better than having some dumbfuckng indian face....

Speaking of which. Am surprised they didnt find some stupid nerd looking indian to appear as Q in the james bond movies....in the fuckin movies, london is still predominantly white as opposed to the shitty brown reality.........

Actually, its Hollywood's sales and business team thinking that if we put an Asian actor/actress in.. we can sell in Asia too. Bigger $$!!
