I don't think going to more cores will increase speed without considering other things like 64 bit architecture & efficiency of the OS.
The Apple's iPhone is using a 64 bit architecture. I think the android phones are still using 32 bit. More cores will also require more power & shorten battery life.

If you guys bother to check the iPhone 6 specs aren't really good as compared with the newest android phones but its still being sold alongside the latest android phones and its performance doesn't lose out. In fact most phones still use 2gb ram and you need to constantly clean junk from your android unlike the iPhone which I believe doesn't need to.

Do so much and you don't get substantial improvements?

WHY DO?
