OCBC has completed arrangements to fully reimburse all victims of a recent SMS phishing scam with "goodwill payments" to 790 customers totalling S$13.7 million — significantly higher than the figures initially reported.

The bank had said on Jan 19 that it would be making arrangements with all customers who were victims of the scam to fully reimburse them by the end of last week.

"OCBC Bank would like to update that this has been completed," OCBC said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 30).

The bank said that of the total money lost by its customers, about 80 per cent was lost during the year-end festive period of Dec 23 to Dec 30 last year.

They will compensate cos if everyone draw money out they will go bankrupt, bank actually use public money to run n get profit n paid themselves well thru investment, imagine if wmeveryone go draw out,it will be problem, even if they unload all investment ,no one will hv such big amount to buy up,

This serves as an encouragement ans motivation for more scammers to come out to scam...morally they are just scamming the bank and not the innocent account holders.

I'm surprise the police is quiet on this and have not made any arrest. Are they not tracing the money flow? There is no way the perpetrator can withdraw all $13m from the banks and not get arrested. You need identification to create bank accounts to transfer to and I read some of these are local bank accounts. Unless using FAST transfer, all wire transfer out of Singapore requires 3 days of holding by MAS.

If you made a mistake in transferring, it is against the law for the receiving party to withdraw the money; and this is a massive organised crime, not a civil case. What the authorities doing?

Good that people now got money to celebrate CNY. Otherwise is is politically suicidal for PAP when people start losing their hard earned money thru unchecked scam and we heard nothing from ministers nor MPs who are in charge of security.
