Obese woman stuck in manhole after falling from flat

A team of 12 Civil Defence Personnel used a tripod to pull the body of an obese woman out of a manhole.

An obese woman's body got stuck in a sewer manhole this morning after she fell to her death from a flat.

The 43-year-old woman, believed to weigh about 100kg, fell from Blk 46 Bendemeer Rd this morning at about 9am.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman had landed precisely on a manhole cover and broke it. Her body was contorted into a U-shape in the manhole. Her head and legs were sticking out while her butt was firmly wedged into the manhole.

12 Civil Defence personnel spent two hours removing her body from the scene. The men split into two teams - Ine team went into the sewer from another entrance, while another team set up a tripod above the manhole to pull her body out.

A resident, Azizah (40, housewife), says she heard a loud bang and thought there was an accident. Only later on did she learn that a person had fallen from the flat.

It is said that the deceased woman is not a resident of the area.
