Obama does some plain speak at Seoul summit
By Donald Kirk Nov 13, 2010

While everyone decried protectionism, Obama managed to imply the risks.

"Countries with large surpluses must shift away from depending on exports," he said. "No nation must assume the road to prosperity depends on exports to the US"

Bottom line: "We will continue to watch the appreciation of Chinese currency" - that is, to see if China would seriously raise the value of the yuan as a first step.

"It's important to take the extra time" on negotiations," he said. "I'm assured it's a win-win for American workers and Korean workers." But he added, "there are a lot of suspicions" since "some of these deals may not be good for America."
.

USA is the only market,it may or may not be reinvent itself.

All the other countries(including BRIC) have no hope!

Time to create a regional market in Asia. But the main problem with this
solution is that almost all Asian nations indulge in protectionism
and are not open as the US economy is to the world. Countries
find i easier to export to USA than to their neighboring countries
in Asia.

The US shouldn't just focus on consumer goods and cry unfair competition.

It was natural for many manufacturing from US to relocate to Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Mexico and elsewhere, especially China. US brands like Subway, Campbell`s, Kellogs, BK, Mac and many others are selling big time (spell export) into these markets too.
