A student group from the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Campus Crusade for Christ, has apologised for putting up posters along campus walls which contained “disrespect and insensitive” remarks on other religions.

On its Facebook page, the student group apologised for the “distress” that they have caused with their poster -- which has already gone viral on Facebook -- and that they will be “watchful of future actions”.

“We recognise that our choice of words used should have been more sensitive and tactful. We acknowledge that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs and it is definitely not our intention to force anyone to believe in what we do,” the student group said.

The poster in question was advertising overseas trips to Thailand and Turkey but had contained insensitive comments about the countries’ religions.

When contacted by Yahoo! Singapore, a spokesperson from NUS said that they have already instructed the student group to remove the posters and all related postings on their website and that all students involved in this matter have been counselled.

“NUS is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious community. All members of our community are expected to be respectful towards the religious customs, beliefs and sensitivities of others. We apologise for the disrespectful comments and insensitive actions of our student group,” he said.

However, in school, the poster fiasco has received a lot of attention from students.

Stella Tang, who is in her third year at the university, told Yahoo! Singapore that one should be careful when promoting his or her religion and should be extremely careful when approaching such a sensitive topic.

Economics undergraduate Evia Hu agreed. She said, “I think they should be careful with their words. We should respect each others’ religion like how they will want others to respect Christianity.”

She added that even though it may be natural for some to feel that their religion is superior to others, “I don’t think any religion [should] preach conflicts and discrimination”.

The same sentiment was felt by third year student Alvina Wang. “Although it may be acceptable for people to promote and spread the words of their own religion… [but] from what’s written on the poster, it feels like they are attempting to impose their religion onto others," she said.

should blow this one big big, send those brainless chee bye kia go inside squat under ISD act for having intention to create tension among different religion group

There are two official major Christian 'ECA' groups in NUS: Campus Crusade for Christ and Varsity Christian Fellowship. When I was a student there were a couple more obscure ones. Campus Crusade was the most active one, you could see them actively putting up exhibitions in all the faculties.

There were also many other groups from outside churches. Every week they would organize cell groups/Bible studies and prayer meetings on weekdays, in addition to the church on weekends.

There was also a Korean Christian cult which had operated in NUS. I was approached by one of their members.
Look up 'Jung Myung Seok' 'GACP' and NUS's YDG (Youth Developer Group). His cult operates on front groups that promote sports, music, cultural exchange etc.

YDG and GACP were listed as registered societies in NUS, now they are no more (or renamed).

NUS should stop all religious group in their campus...

Student pay so much $$$ to study, not involve in religious activities! Join such groups got Extra points or Higher chance to stay in hostel?

hi there

1. tsk tsk tsk!
2. honest, such stupid young people have not even earned its first dollar or support itself.
3. over zealous things in the making too!
4. a christian must also learn to respect others' faith & practices.
5. such specimens should attend the chc.

still in school and they already have the elitist mindset.

if everything can be settled by saying sorry, police do what fuck? :oIo:

The whole trouble with Christians is that they are always evangelizing and feel that they must convert other people to their faith. That's why they piss me off.

All other religions dont do that.

Agree with your suggestion 100%.
I have met some Christians who will not go for tours to Thailand because they said " its mostly Buddhist temples and nothing else".

CCC may not be aware there are already many Churches in Thailand and some of the well heeled members of Thai society are Christians.

I still welcome CCC members to go to Thailand (and contribute to their tourism revenue) and will be interesting to find out the outcome when male members encounter ladies from Soi Nana, Cowboy ect2.

By the way most of the foreigners who fall hard after Thai women are from the West =predominantly Christians right?

I wonder why NUS as a secular institution allowed such radical Christian groups like Campus Crusade for Christ to go around preaching and imposing their beliefs on others. I was told by some friends they have encountered harassment from these Christian students during their first day in school. And with such militant name as Crusade, i wonder whether NUS should start a scrutiny and close these Christian Jihadist cells down.

Christians normally evangelise to Buddhist countries as Buddhists normally are tolerant and can even keep quiet while they taunted buddhism. In Spore, the Buddhists and Taoists bored the brunt of the intense evangelistic campaigns with the likes of Rony Tan and many others that goes unreported. In happens in schools, offices, hospitals and so on...Normally Buddhists and Taoists just kept their heads low and let them do it..my mum is an example. She just keeps quiet and even smile when these ppl came to the house and berated her for praying to idols.

When i look back, i think the harmonious multi-religious relations in Spore comes about because of the tolerance and accomodating attitude of Singapore majority populace of Taoist and Buddhist community towards incidents like this. This is also possible by the now still small population of Christians. As years past by with the total Buddhist/Taoist population shrinking every population census, who knows what will happen to the now relative religious harmony in Spore.

Fortunately, the majority of Sporeans whether Buddhist,Taoist, Muslims, Christians. catholics or Hindus still are very understanding, accomodating and tolerant of each other and that every faiths taught good, not only theirs alone.

Since these zealots are so missionary and mercenary, may I suggest they go to Southern Thailand or Southern Philippines to preach the gospel there. Better still for those of them with balls, go all the way to Palestine and try to convert the Muslims there.

If this group is so serious in bring joy and Jesus is almighty, try going UAE lah:D Why no faith that you will succeed ah:confused::D With NUS students like these, we should be worried.:o

The founder of Campus Crusade for Christ (worldwide movement) is Bill Bright.

He was the author of 'The Four Spiritual Laws', a book/tract that was distributed to other people.
He also wrote many other Christian books.

American preachers have a major influence and presence on Singapore's Christian church scene. Another one whom I can think of is Carl McIntire, one of the founders of the fundamentalist Bible Presbyterian church. He was a colorful character, supported Ronald Reagan, a firebrand and a staunch anti-communist.

Even if you are not a Christian, it is very interesting to know some background information.

They should go to Afghanistan and try converting those hardcore Fucktard Islamic Mullahs there... Then we'll see whether they will return back to Spore with their heads still intact or not.. :D

jail these kids when rony tan walks free? :oIo: fuck u poodle force

Sorry your Na Mah.

all these evangelists especially those from USA and even local charismatic churches are all blardy cowards and arrogant @ssholes. In NUS I encounters them every month!!!!! their modus operandi is the same. first make you feel guilty or inferior by saying that you have sinned, , then be extra nice to you by offer a way out of a "problem"(created by them and does not exists) by their pseudo "salvation" conversion. If you hesitate they get the pretty girls to sweet talk you day in and day out, offer free tutorials , rides, etc. if you refused, overnight they excommunicate you and avoid you like the plaque. they use all these crap psychology an social pressures to convert you and after you join, ask you to pay 10% of your salary or allowance as tithe to the church, which goes into the pastor pocket who end up living in a large house and drive a Mercs at your expense. REAL STUPID ISN'T IT!!!!!
Its extortion using psychological ,social pressures and using fear(telling you sinners go to hell and so on) . in my opinion. what so different are they from gangsters and triads who extort money. they are worse as they are cowards. why don't these CCC !diots go and proselytise in Malaysia or Saudi arabia or UAE or afghanistan since there are so much less joy there going by their logic. ALL useless b@lless cowards. no wonder so much trouble in this world because of these people who are insensitive, rude, cowards. I like telling them to f@rk off the moment they says I "sinned". I tell them I agree they have sinned but not me as I am pure and have never sinned unlike their leaders, so no point talking to me as I am superior to them. give them a taste of their own medicine. Hah good. hope a few people lodge police reports against them or hope the Thai embassy lodge an official diplomatic protest against them for slander and libel and the university for allowing such !diotic and unscientific and immoral activities.
