JUST 15 minutes after the 19 full-time national servicemen (NSFs) got off the bus, it exploded.

The driver of the CNG-fuelled bus died from complications arising from his burns four days later, the coroner’s inquiry into his death in the August 2010 incident heard on Wednesday.

Mr Chan Beng San, 56, had picked up the group of NSFs from Jurong Camp 1 at 6.45am on Aug 13, 2010. He drove to the Poyang Range at Old Lim Chu Kang Road and the group alighted at 7.05am.

About 15 minutes later, the group, which had left some items behind in the bus, called Mr Chan’s mobile phone.

It was answered by someone in a panicked state who told them that the bus had exploded.

Read the full report in The New Paper on Thursday (Nov 22).

It happened on 13 Aug 2010, 3 months ago and 2 years ago.

No, I'm asking why TNP is reporting old news. Not why you're posting old news.

They keep such incidents under wraps or else it might blow up. Now 2 years later they allowed it to be published and by then no one cares too much about it. This is typical of MINDEF to suppress any negative news which will affect parents of present and future NS men.

CNG fueled, imagine those hybrid vehicles, cng - compressed gas, if involved in accident, sure will explode.

What is c a & b?

Any such civilian incident I am sure the MSM's will be splashing the news as soon as they possibly can.

Means delay from investigator and court. Very common in the 80s and 90s. Some cases delayed for many years because of lapses. For the not-so-serious ones, better to avoid court date. To do so, get DPP's concurrance for warning in lieu of prosecution. For CI, too bad. Cannot siam.

Good excuse not to let the public know.

Some cases, you can't 'hide' them. CI for example. Need to account to family of deceased. Victimless crimes easier to 'hide'.

When deaths occurred for NS Men yes but not for accidents and injuries.

If I have a son who died serving, I surely would have gathered all parents together to form a group. In this way we all will know the actual number of NS Men who died in service. Presently these isolated cases we do know of does not register with the public and set off alarm bells.

Hmm, it seems no one noticed that the bus is made in China.
