A 15-year-old girl asked her boyfriend why he did not use a condom before they had sex for the first time. He told her that he smoked and the menthol in the cigarettes would have killed his sperm.
She believed him and became pregnant after they went on to have sex on other occasions.
On Tuesday, Peter Mark Ng Jia Jun, a full-time national serviceman (NSF), was placed on probation for a year. He had pleaded guilty last month to having sex with a girl below 16 years of age in 2010.
A district court heard that Ng was then 19 and unemployed while the girl was a student in a secondary school. They got to know each other in early March 2010 and started going steady soon after.
