Typhoon Hagupit: Singapore Red Cross Deploys Team, Donates Over US$45,000
SINGAPORE, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- The Singapore Red Cross is deploying an advance team of five Singaporeans to the Philippines on Tuesday in response to Typhoon Hagupit.
The team will distribute relief supplies including food, pharmaceuticals and hygiene kits to affected communities in Masbate, where the typhoon made landfall on Sunday.
The team will also conduct needs assessment of the ground situation.
The Singapore Red Cross through its Disaster Response Emergency Fund will contribute S$60,000 (about US$45,339.34) to immediate response by the Red Cross Movement Partners: Philippine Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Singapore Red Cross deputy secretary-general Lim Theam Poh said: "We are heartened by the positive response from members of the public to our operational updates on social media.
"Let us do what we can to help our neighbours in need especially in this season of giving," he said.
