A Singapore Airlines (SIA) plane was about 90km or some 10 minutes away, when a Malaysia Airlines jet was shot down over eastern Ukraine last month.

Following news of the crash of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, Singapore Airlines (SIA) said on today (July 18) that its aircraft do not fly in Ukraine airspace.

“Customers may wish to note that Singapore Airlines flights are not using Ukraine airspace,” SIA said in a Facebook post early this morning. “Our thoughts are with the passengers and crew of MH17, and their families,” it added in a separate post.



A Singapore Airlines spokeswoman was quoted as saying by Reuters: “We have re-routed our flights since the incidents and are no longer using that airspace.”
