[Quran 2:256] "There shall be no compulsion in religion..."

Means, if you marry a muslim, you no need to convert. For Islam preaches freedom in religion.

According to the Qur'an, People of the book can marry a Muslim without having to convert to Islam. This includes Christians and Jews.

The question is whether the Muslims practise what is actually stated in the Qur'an regarding this matter?

Meaning that human beings misinterpret the teachings or understand the real meaning but purposely practise contrary to the teachings?

Please clarify. Thanks.
