And of all things, the sky was threatening. It was raining and could pour dogs and cats. Many would choose the comfort of staying at home, high and dry and continue with their CNY celebration.

And many did not even know that such an event was being held. There was not an inkling of news in the main media that there was a protest rally at Hong Lim. Only the internet savvy Sinkies were privy to this event. And they could do just so much to get it across to their close friends and people close to them. The dissemination of this event was slip shod at best and restricted by having no access to the main media, the newspapers, radio and TV. No neglect on the part of the organisers of course. They did their very best.

99.9% did exactly that.

3000 made their presence felt.

And more than 3.2 million have more productive things to do with their time.

I predict that come 2016, the PAP will capture even more votes than they did in 2011. Singaporeans have short memories. A few kind words, a few well timed payouts and everything will be forgiven. It may cost the PAP a bit more than a couple of hundred "New Singapore Shares" but I have confidence they'll come up with some sweetener that will win the electorate over.

This is something we should be proud of. Like with most things in life, we take baby steps. Besides, I would think that at least half of the 3.2m who did not go shared the same sentiments as those who went.

You are right... we have allowed the PAP to abuse the system and govt machinery that it has turned into a Leviathan ..... we will have to take it down but it wont be overnight...like i said to Sammy, iof by 2016 those cheebyekiahs still hold more than 2/3, then this country is truly fucked and everyone better prepare to run road while they can.....

Yes,you are right Boss Sam,Singapore citizens do have beri short momory, the percentage was over-estimated,it would be 51.111% for opposition and 49.99999% for PAP comes 2016,however PM Lee still be jobless by then,he is making preparation now, watch him, always with a book -to study!

The event can easily turn into eating curry chicken and mee hoon. MM Lee hospitalised after suffering a mini-stroke.

Everything starts small... I loved the movie 300.. the story of 300 spartans who stood against an entire Persian army of close to 1million.. wow.. granted the Spartans had geograhical advantage on their side.. but they probably knew they might never go home.. let alone live to see the Persians get pushed back home

3000 is not a small number, considering the absence of such a big number in any past protest or such an event. But I believe it is a good start. Granted that not many Singaporeans might have known about it.. let alone think carefully of what the implications are, should they attend the event. But, I saw families there.. parents who brought their children.. friends who went there together.. and I even met my old friend (from primary to secondary school.. from NS to now).

And.. the news on Channel U also showed the event.. I bet some (or dare I say it.. a lot of) Singaporeans could be pinching themselves for not knowing of such an event.

It will definitely be conversational material for quite some time, given the rarity of such numbers against the ruling party's policy on increasing the numbers of foreigners. And I hope that more Singaporeans can wake up and realize the truth that the media in Singapore is being controlled.. what you read, hear and see.. are mostly edited (when they can) or not reported entirely if they think it's not in their favour.

2 thumbs up to those who attended the event. To those who knew and didn't go.. I hope they can redeem themselves if another event comes along.. we should show Hong Kongers that we too can muster over 10,000 people to sound off to the pappies.
