SINGAPORE - A new Chinese publication on former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew's life has been launched.

Titled 'Singapore chose Lee Kuan Yew', :oIo: the collection is presented in nine volumes and depicts Mr Lee's career of over 60 years.

The book was launched by Cengage Learning Asia and the National Archives of Singapore, and unveiled by Minister for Education Mr Heng Swee Keat, at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy today.

In the publication, Mr Lee's career is depicted from different perspectives, such as nation building, diplomacy, family and friendship, and personal health. Each volume in the collection is based on a different theme.

This is the third in a series of publications on Mr Lee produced by the National Archives of Singapore and Cengage Learning Asia. It draws and condenses content from The Papers of Lee Kuan Yew, a 20-volume English-language collection published earlier in two phases that covers the speeches, interviews and dialogues of Mr Lee from 1950 to 2011.

The project was led by Mr Seng Han Thong, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, together with several veteran Chinese journalists. Materials from over 2000 of Mr Lee's speeches, interviews and dialogues were used during selection.

In a statement, the National Library Board (NLB) said that the collection features 500 photographs from the National Archives of Singapore and Singapore Press Holdings. There is also an interview with Mr Lee, covering questions that readers may have for him as he turns 90.

Mr Eric Chin, Director, National Archives of Singapore, said: "The National Archives of Singapore is very happy to present this publication that examines different aspects of Mr Lee Kuan Yew's political career and personal life. We hope the public will find it an engaging and thoughtful record of Mr Lee's beliefs, as well as his contributions to our country."

The collection is available in paperback at $119 and hardback at $269. Browsing copies are also available at the National Archives Reading Room and the National Library, and for loan at all public libraries.
