Victims of drug addicts and their families have no one and opportunity to speak up to petition for harsher sentence for drug trafficking at Istana, these are the people who need help and not the other way round? Right?

Simply because the Opposition does not find it an attractive bandwagon to jump on. ;)

So they do not have real interest for Yong but were politically motivated

The question that should always be asked is this:

Which gentleman in the team stands to gain [in terms of career] if Yong is let off the hook ?

Does campaigning on behalf of victims of drug trafficking help anybody's career ?

Many lives destroyed by reckless import of foreigners. Is this counted too?

Of course.

Look at Yong's case, was he framed or innocent? He is guilty as charged. Opposition is just jumping on the bandwagon and bashing the PAP and Prataman as a bunch of murderers, when the law is already there for many years.

Yong Vui Kong is no naive, retarded person, he knows what he was doing and he got away with it several times. If he was that sincere in giving up the life of drug distribution, he is always free to surrender to any police station and in fact, his sentence may be lightened to few years in prison, life is kept.

His family and friends probably knew what he was doing, but did they stop him? NO. And now they are begging on bended knees, shedding tears for the cameras and instead of blaming themselves for their incompetence, just simply point the finger at the justice system for being draconian, as though Malaysia is any different.

Look at some of the reasons why they think Yong Vui Kong should be spared and you pretty much can tell that it is all political motive. That said, I still prefer the Opposition, but disagree with them here.

No one dare to come forth & speak for those families who are affected, even the many NGO's out there. Who dares?

You have a good point here, that, no one spoke up for the 'victims', but only support for the accused.

That's such a society we have here, lodsidded. Look at USA, for example, the protest at ground zero in NYC against the building of an Islamic Fascilty there. They have the for & against groups there..one trying to reach out to the other.

Do we have this kind of democratic representation? You get CSJ & co., to support the victims of drugs at the same place, where the petition for reprival is held....I am sure the entire police force will be there, even though it is a peaceful protest...

We are not democratic..only in name only...you have a valid point.

It's a common sight in western cities.

Look the drug carriers come to Singapore with eyes open. In this case, he knew that he has passed into a major (adult) age at age 18.

What if he is not caught and contiues to smuggle drugs?

He would be promoted in few years and in his mid 20s he could be driving a brand new Honda Civic or BMW in East Malaysia.....that's after hundreds of youth in Singapore would be poisoned.

I hate the PAP govt of many of their acts, but for hanging drug pushers, drug rign leaders, murderers, and rapist cum murder.....if it is proven beyond any reasonable doubt then go ahead. There could be some mistakes along the way, in terms of miscarriage of justice, but then look at Singapore, it go thought the mid 60s and early 70s of the hippie era without haing the drug culture destroy its youth.

In the N.S., do you think it was safe if there was a few drug addicts (undected ones) doing the firing range with you. Do you think it would be safe for your own kids.

I certainly feel sorry for this guy, but then with all this publicity, it makes the case worse. In this type of case, PAP will not bow down to public pressure bec. they will lose face and send a wrong signal to the drug trafficers that the govt is soft and bend the rules due to pressure.

He will surely die.

Let's face it, no matter how uneducated he is, he must surely know the death penalty for his act. What damn excuse he give. And look, you are dealing with drug trafficers... organized criminals. And Singapore never hide the fact....it tells very clearly in the airport entry and causeway and boat....Drug Offend is a DEATH PANATY. You come i with your eyes open. For this I fully endore the Singapore govt.

The Online Citizens (OLC) and Temasek Review (TR) reported the father kneeled down and the rest of the family followed. But then in the vidoe, it was the brother who did it first. Moreover, the dad only went on ONE knee.

Am I critical? Why then the OLC and TR then be so critical to the Istana security corporal saying he did nto allow the father to say a few words. Come on, this policeman has no power to listen so he might as well not to give a force hope and waste their time. He did not dare to tell them direct to hurt them.

Again I said this not because I like PAP but I am just being onjective.

The other thing I really like about Singapore is the canning. I proposed that the canning be extended to age 75 but with some ligther canes after age 55. If these sex offenders dare to molest you daughters, they should dare to face the cane. Just Sin$30 + another $3 bus fare, any man in Singapore can fuck a prostitute for 15 minutes, why must they molest young girls.

Look at what sentence the Canadian judges give to the child molesters make you sick. Cane them. Let the parents cane them. Revenge? YES!

I must praise the PAP govt for not canning women. But I suggest that they change the law and cane some women on a case-by-case basis bec, some women offenders are more hard-core than many men.

It is false to say that ALL the APs are taking issue with our mandatory death penalty. Only the SDP has done so. Please be accurate with your words otherwise no one will believe what you write.

There are already many help groups for those addicted to drugs. Why should SDP or any AP try to create another? The emphasis should on policing our drug problems here. When was the last time that a drug kingpin was caught in Singapore? All we have are small time drug couriers getting caught once in a while and drug users. But the headmen are always left to cast their net again and again.

In a society such as ours where poverty exists, it is easy to lure young naive men or even women to become drug couriers.

Some day someone you know will be within the grasp of the law. Let's see then if you still think the same.

Just because you know that hanging is mandatory doesn't mean that everyone to knows about this.

If you love PAP so much then what do you have to say of your beloved PAP's business dealings with Burmese druglords? These are the big fishes that should be caught as well and hung!

Where is your conscience. Where is your logical thoughts? You are inconsistent in your aspersions regarding hanging and the drug problem.

I apologize for putting the wrong term. From now on, I shall just put SDP in future posts. :o:o

Thanks for telling me that. ;)

It is always a pity that the kingpin is never caught, but unfortunately they are always based in other ASEAN countries which we have no jurisdiction.
Eliminating the kingpins requires the cooperation of ASEAN, not just the efforts of Singapore.

Because the drug addicts are responsible for their own lives as well. How many people here are speaking up for gambling addicts and those families destroyed by a gambling addiction? You would be painting the gambling addict as a stupid fool instead of pushing for the gambling operators to face the mandatory death penalty as well. Double standards? How about alcohol addiction? There are many instances where people drink and drive (remember the Romanian ambassador?) and kill others, wrecking the lives of their families. Why are these people not facing the death penalty?

It is acceptable for drug trafficking to face the death penalty only because it is accepted by society. What society feels is right may not be the same as what an individual feels is right. I don't think there is a lot of political mileage to be gained by fighting for foreign condemned prisoners so I am inclined to think they are doing so out of their own personal convictions. It is you who are politicising the issue and robbing the condemned prisoners of their dignity.

My points.

a. drug addiction carries far more serious consequences and damage to society than gambling and alcohol addictions

b. society mandated death for drug traffickers simply because they want a drug-free society and not one where pushers are present at every street corner and in schools.

c. if the opposition come into influence and force the government to throw out the death penalty, will that be a loss? That is the question to ask instead of getting rid of the PAP.

d. the evidence that some oppositions are fighting for their self-interest had been reported. Even with the evidence, you still cannot see the dirt in them, it is simply because you are dishonest to yourself. If you dislike what you see in the PAP and you see the same happening in the opposition but defended the opposition and criticise the PAP, then dishonesty is the correct description of you.

What was VK's family members doing when he was smuggling drugs?

Don't tell me they don't know??
