North Korea said on Saturday it would begin a 'sacred war' against the United States and South Korea at "any time necessary" based on its nuclear deterrent, in response to "reckless" military exercises by the allies.

North Korea has driven tensions on the Korean peninsula to new heights after the South accused the North of sinking one of its warships in March, killing 46, and took steps to boost its defence including massive military drills with the United States.

Pyongyang customarily voiced shrill anger in the past when the allies conducted exercises, but US officials said further provocations are possible, especially as the North tries to build political momentum for succession of power to Kim Jong-il's son.

US and South Korean militaries begin large-scale naval and aerial drills on Sunday with a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier taking part and they have additional exercises planned in August.

"The army and people of the DPRK will start a retaliatory sacred war of their own style based on nuclear deterrent any time necessary in order to counter the US imperialists and the South Korean puppet forces deliberately pushing the situation to the brink of a war," the North's National Defence Commission said.

DPRK is short for Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

"All these war manoeuvres are nothing but outright provocations aimed to stifle the DPRK by force of arms to all intents and purposes," the powerful commission said in a statement carried by the North's official KCNA news agency.

It again denied that the country was behind the sinking of South Korea's corvette Cheonan, and said the planned military drills were "as reckless an act as waking up a sleeping tiger".

Full of bluster.

But one must not forget that old man Kim can still obliterate much of Seoul as well as US troops in the DMZ at touch of button. So while it is not a seapower, it is a force to be reckoned with. Plus, they do have nuclear weapons!!

Furthermore when push comes to shove, will South Koreans allow aerial bombing that will kill many innocent NK citizens, many of whom are relatives. Add to that the cost to Sk of eventual reunification.

So after all this hemming and hawing it is back to stalemate and US have to talk. For of a PR move on both sides given that it is 50th anniversary of Korean war truce.

Korea, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel are all of political and strategic interest to US

North Korea has called it bluffs many times.

Each time they bluffed, they stretched out their hands to ask for more aids. The USA under Bush has fell for it many times. Even Singapore contributed some money to keep them off nuclear experimentation. Instead, while the world feed NKorean people, the government used the time and money for more experiments.

Even lately they threatened to bomb South Korea if the UN and USA go ahead and accused them of sinking the SKorean warship.

Obama must come up with a different response so that the North Korea. Kim must be prosecuted for murder and other crimes. Kim must be obliterated.

I hope he nuke the US carrier George Washington. If the did it then I will happily parade his portrait along Orchard Road.:p:p:p

About time US bomb North Korea back to stone age!!

Cut the balls of Kim and his sons!!
