4月14日据日本《产经新闻》报道，当天在北京召开的中日两国第五次经济高层会议上，日方代表河野太郎外相首先表示，当前中国GDP位居世界第二，正在引领世界经济的发展走向发达国家，今后在多边课题和合作方面，中国也应承担更多责任做出更大的贡献。
他补充道，在知识产权保护等方面中国应尽快整顿好与本国经济大国地位相称的市场发展环境，建设公正的贸易投资环境。
对此，外交部长王毅回应，中日两国间经济合作的广度和深度都在不断扩大，中国将表现出支持多边贸易体制、构筑开放性世界经济的决心。
会上，双方还针对今年6月在大阪召开的20国地区首脑会议（G20），就世界贸易机构（WTO）改革等议题交换了意见。中方表示期待日方以更加积极明确的态度参与共建“一带一路”。
