SINGAPORE: Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth, Lawrence Wong will be in Seoul from 18 to 20 March.

Mr Wong will be there to launch the exhibition "The Peranakan World: Cross-cultural Art from Singapore and the Straits", at the National Museum of Korea (NMK).

He will also meet senior officials from Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

They will exchange views on cultural development and explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in arts and culture.

A statement from the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth said the launch of the exhibition in Korea is a significant milestone.

That's because it's the first time the collection from the Peranakan Museum in Singapore is travelling to another country, in East Asia.

The exhibition had previously travelled to Paris in 2010 where it was shown at the Musée du Quai Branly, as part of the Singapour Festivarts.

The exhibition tells the story of how Chinese immigrant communities created a unique culture by adopting some customs and beliefs from their new home in the Straits.
