The old guards worked for a common good, tirelessly not only for themselves but for the people whom they were elected to serve.

In Singapore's development from then till now, where got such things as old guards!!!!!

LKY founded Singapore when it was just a forest island with no inhabitant, he singlehandedly got rid of all the wild animals like tigers & lions. And he singlehandedly built the ports, the airports & all the infrastructure in Singapore.

He even built Singapore's reputation as a financial hub all singlehandedly! What old guards are we talking about? Every fart he let go something new appears & every pee he relieves, new achievements are made. He is not a demigod, he is the Hakka god that all generations must worship or you will have three little muskeeters knocking on your door in the middle of the night to lock you up for not believing in his godly powers.

All these talks about him being a Jap running dog & making use of the commis & later locking them are all hard truths that must not be taken seriously! Sinkies must believe that chicken are produced in supermarket born without head legs & feathers and cling wrap nicely with a price tag when they are born!

hmm…to be fair maintain the current hdb system…then introduce a low price entry-level (EL) hdb 3,4 room flat that is different from BTO/DBSS in: (1) 49 yr lease with option to extend the lease later-on depending on the needs (2) for citizen only and the male partner must served ns (3) for 1st time buyer only (4) buy/sell direct thru hdb, not resale mkt (5) is not owner of another property at the same time (6) non-investment grade (7) cannot sub-let (8) no carpark lot option (9) for low and average income citizen only etc ...
