it was named after the dieppe raid in france during ww2 in which more than 6.9k allied troops (mostly canadians) were committed to secure a small port as a test of marine landing operation for a future invasion. unfortunately it was a fiasco, and more than 3.69k allied troops (96% canadians) were either killed, wounded or captured by nazis. any camp named after this disaster is better off gone.
