skinny guy did very well, never mind the power. His only mistake is he didn't down the stout guy while he could. That could prove fatal as he allowed fat guy to recover.

Exactly. The fat guy was obviously dazed for a moment. Skinny guy should have taken him out with couple more solid punches to the face. He failed to follow up effectively.
