tracetogether token uses bluetooth for proximity detection. there are tons of bluetooth tags being sold in the u.s. today. majority are made in china. but they are not the same. tracetogether is differentiated by its app and nationally-purposed method of tracing sinkies who go near each other. bluetooth tags are mainly used for tagging easy to lose things. some mischievious men drop tags in women’s handbags and cars to track them home, especially when they are chiobus. airtag by apple has better privacy, as it’s encrypted and it prevents mischief tagging as only the owner with hisher iphone can find it (albeit heshe may rely on other iphone users to help triangulate its whereabouts). but other iphone users may not know that they’re helping to do so. besides bluetooth for proximity detection, it uses nfc for “lost mode” and special apple chip for ultra wideband and “precision finding” - way more advanced than tracetogether token and other general purpose tags by using 3 types of wireless protocols.
