Our polys or Uni engineering department have them. But if you are thinking of one beside your desktop printer don't rush out and buy them. The technology is not quite there yet. Ask them to demo printing a ship with sales and mast, or a small cup that does not leak.

Anyone know if we have a 3D printer in Singapore??

Other than the schools, I think HP has some commercial model. However, the early models are still quite some ways away. I was looking at the 3D printer for the past year or so and decided to wait out. The tech is not ready

When this technology becomes widely available, a lot of people will face structural unemployment. The labour market will not be able to react fast enough for these changes.

It will be a dream come true for very talented people. The mediocre will be forced out of jobs. The world will be really competitive. Middlemen will be gone, even small manufacturers.

I worry for the next generation.

bro,

this technology will flush out fake FTs. Just prepare for the change and make your kids do more and be creative.

The equipment is simple to apply to make great things but the key to success of this biz is to get into CAD software. CAD is hard to learn and to make complex product many fake FTs will not be able to compete in this market.

CAD software may be hard. But easier ones can be found. Sketchup by Google is free. Just as we continue to be laggards in internet bandwidth compared to Hong Kong or Korea, PAP will join the band-wagon, promises employment opportunities just like our casinos, and fuck it up with rules. No 3D printing of dildoes, replica flintlock, toy handcuffs with fines and imprisonment.

Is this really new? I thought they had this 20 or 30 years ago. They called it "rapid prototyping" then. If I am not wrong, one machine cost in the region of half million at that time.
