Netizens sceptical over Sabah’s space dream

KOTA KINABALU: The idea of Sabah considering its own space launch facility is not making people in the state feeling on top of the world.
It has instead become a joke among netizens who say they are more concerned about the need for basic facilities that the state has not been able to solve until today.
They wasted no time in expressing their thoughts on the matter on social media after a state minister said Sabah would be among 16 locations in the world to have its own space launch facility if a study proved the project to be feasible.
Boyon Mantisjanz T. Shaah pointed out that roads needed to be asphalted and repaired, while Valarmathy Vaiyavari said driving in Sabah was like driving on the moon, with lots of potholes resembling it’s surface.
Qimie Adlan said there was no need for sky-high daydreaming.
“But it is better to dream about Sabah becoming more developed, like the slogan Sabah Maju Jaya,” she added.
“Roads here are already like the surface of the moon and this problem, coupled with water, electricity and flood issues, cannot even be solved,” she said.
Shui Apple said problems in the land of Sabah were far from being resolved, adding that there was no need to bring more trouble to space.
On Tuesday, state Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Arifin Arif spoke about a feasibility study to build the proposed space launch site in the state, adding that the study would be the first step following the formation of the Sabah Space Industrial Corporation.
Arifin said if it was found that the state was suitable for it, the project would create history and make Malaysia the ninth worldwide to have such a facility.
