SINGAPORE: Nearly half of all primary schools in Singapore are oversubscribed in Phase 2C, with most of them set to conduct balloting, according to data from the Ministry of Education on Friday (Aug 5).

Phase 2C is considered the most competitive phase and is open to all children with no prior connection to their school of choice.

Registration for Phase 2C opened at 9am on Jul 27 and closed at 4.30pm on Jul 29
, with the data on the oversubscribed schools released on Friday evening.

Of the 181 primary schools in Singapore, 88 received more applications than they had spaces, the data showed.

Princess Elizabeth Primary School in Bukit Batok was the most oversubscribed school in this phase, receiving five times as many applicants as they had vacancies.

When Singapore’s foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan remarked on an opposition politician’s educational background to a party colleague in parliament on Tuesday, he did not expect what he said to go viral.

But his asides were caught on microphone – and with the session being live-streamed, an audio clip with the comments “He’s illiterate”, “Seriously, how did he get into RI?” and “Must be a lousy school” quickly made the rounds.

SG schools availability are all pre-planned as we have the birth statistics for natural born Singaporeans. Surge will only mean new residents' children are many. I guess PAP quietly doing massive re-population to hit 7 million small target first; just look at property prices, COE prices to triangulate the information.

Already Singaporeans are a minority in SG but it's okay, don't complain. It's good for properties and taxation.

I just went to the nearest neighbourhood primary school. Just a 5 minutes walk from home. No need to wake up too early, no need to catch a school bus.

Enjoyed playing football with the Malay boys from the Primary 8 Extended class.

Still managed to ace my PSLE.

Methinks many of the parents just want to brag to others that their brats went to a 'branded' primary school, especially during CNY gatherings. :whistling:

Primary School admission priority should be given to any child who has a father or grandfather who served NS.
Period.

Singapore has a shortage of good schools. Parents are aware that if their kids are enrolled in neighbourhood schools, their kids' future will likely be ruined.
