Singapore agency clears e-waste shipment
Al Haya Waste Management and Projects has announced that its first shipment of electronic waste to Singapore had been cleared by the Singapore’s National Environmental Agency .
The company has credited Qatar’s Ministry of Environment and its official Dr Rashid al-Kuwari for the support extended to it in this regard.
“We are happy to be the first e-waste collection company to join the Qatar e-waste recycling programme,” Al Haya general manager Venugopal said.
He thanked the HSE team of Gulf Contracting Company and Redington Qatar who came forward to dispose their electronic waste in an environmentally responsible way.
“We have collected about 20,000kg of e-waste, consisting of about 10,000 printer cartridges, 5,000 printers, hundreds of copiers, computers and other electronic items,” Venugopal explained.
Al Haya, which has also signed contracts with Dolphin Energy and Transfield Mannai, is in discussion with more than 10 companies for e-waste recycling.
“Due to our efforts almost 60% of hypermarkets and supermarkets have shifted to degradable plastic bags,” the official added.gl
