Hope our new MOE Minister Chan can end the new PSLE scoring system. No doubt, students will not be pushed to get full marks (as getting 92% is the same as getting 99%), it punishes weaker students exponentially.
In O Levels grading, 60% is B4 which is a respectable score and
4x more than A1.
However in PSLE, 60% is as good as getting C6 (AL6) which is
6x more than A1.
The MOE planner plotted to raise the bar for weaker students and make 65% is the implied passing score.
It’s true that different grading systems can really shape how students see themselves. I remember feeling that frustration when effort didn’t seem to match the final score. Later on, when I was preparing for job applications, I realized that grades were just one small piece of the bigger picture. What helped me most was learning how to highlight my strengths and communicate them clearly. I actually worked with this career coaching and resume service
https://resumewritinglab.com/career-coaching-resume-service/ and found it super practical. They didn’t just polish my resume, they helped me frame my experiences in a way that felt authentic. That shift gave me a lot more confidence moving forward, and honestly it mattered way more than whether I had scored a few points higher back in school.
