in my time, angpows collected by us were recycled by parents. if a relative gave angpow to us, then mum would reciprocrate. but before she did that, she must check how much inside. then she would return the amount in angpows. say if there were 3 of us and each got $1 per angpow and the relative only got like 2 kids. she would enclose $1.50 and gave an angpow each to the kid.

the result: zero profit, zero loss.
