Almost 1 million viewers tuned in to Channel NewsAsia during polling night by S Ramesh

SINGAPORE - Nearly a million viewers tuned in to watch the 2011 Singapore Presidential Election Polling Night telecast live on Channel NewsAsia (CNA) on Saturday.

The seven-hour show was one of the top 10 programmes for MediaCorp for the year to date - reaching almost one in four viewers aged 15 years and above.

The programme provided analysis and immediate interviews with the four candidates throughout the night - at the counting centres, assembly centres and the Elections Department.

CNA's website, channelnewsasia.com, served nearly half a million streams of the programme.

They viewers included people from as far away as Brazil, Romania, New York and Sweden.

Some comments included: "I'm probably the only one watching from Bucharest, Romania!"

Another message read: "I am a Singaporean, now in Weifang, China. Singaporeans, let's stay united regardless of the outcome."

The website also saw a surge in page views.

It registered some 3.8 million page views on Sunday, which is 1.5 times the daily average. S RAMESH

Why I did not withdraw from election: Tan Kin Lian

04:45 AM Sep 01, 2011SINGAPORE - His private surveys and "information from a third-party survey" indicated that he had a "credible level of support", said former NTUC Income chief Tan Kin Lian.

That was why he did not withdraw from the four-cornered fight in the Aug 27 Presidential Election, Mr Tan, 63, said in a statement yesterday.

Referring to some commentators who had said that he "should have known the ground feel on Nomination Day" and withdraw his candidacy then, Mr Tan said: "As always, the wisdom of hindsight never fails but the truth was that on Nomination Day, the voters were still largely undecided on whom they would be voting, if at all."

He added that he had banked on support from the more than one million NTUC Income policyholders, heartlanders and those he had spoken up for during the last financial crisis.

Fewer than 5 per cent of the 2.1 million electorate voted for Mr Tan, causing him to lose the election deposit of S$48,000.

"The election had cost me and my donors a total of $120,000, including the loss of the deposit, and also a dent to my reputation," said Mr Tan. " However, I have already managed the disappointment and will take a positive attitude towards this outcome," he added.

Latest On Tan Kin Lian is that he has gone overseas and or gone

to avoid the 95.10 % ( 100 less 4.90% ) of the 2.20 million voters

who did not vote for him during PE.

My agent friend working in AIA said AIA Not likely in talk

with TLK because 95.10% of 2.2 million voters or

2,092,000 voters are not going to buy any policy with him :(

TKL said he is a Statisticiannnnnnnnnnn ,that means he knows

that every 100 MRT passengers he meet only

4.90 persons like him and 95.10 persons dislike him

Many PPL Say He's Not Good Enough

I think "many ppl say" he's not good enough to shake hands with Pres Obama or the Queen E 2. He must do the hi-five which is considered as a riff raff ! Buh ! Silly !

It's not cool when everyone's giving yer the cold treatment, man !

Tan Kin (KIM) Lian and wife (Vivian Tay) will give current AIA 's Rayner Lee & Wife( Mary Chen Ming Li) a good run. Rayner and Mary: husband and wife team at AIA. Estimated Earning
about S$4.00M per year. Same as Elected President Salary.
AIA also got "pension".

You see, you see - even insurance agents can earn $4m. And here you have a President that earns that same amount and people eyes turn green and look to heaven and hell.

You poor PAP prostitute. The one and only AIA, before that Great Eastern husband and wife team with over a quarter century of work dedication. And you want to spew sperm from your mouth squealing you see! you see!

You're pathetic, apparently you dont seem to have the ability in telling the difference between private and public. Just how shallow can you be.

voters prefer seeing things in its simplest form. tkl keeps harping on his "help SPEAK out for minibond victims..." is like a broken record player. his speak out is nothing compare to what's spoken here in this kopitiam. what the minibond victims need is to get their money back. did tkl do that? if not, everyone also knows how to speak out.

the most critical reason of his downfall:

hearing too much GOOD THINGS - flatteries. definitely tuned to the wrong frequency of 90.5 FMGOLD

now trying to rectify and hear the BAD THINGS - the truths. sorry too late. GAME OVER!

Mr Tan Kin Lian yesterday laid out his plan to form a 'personal presidential council',
if he is elected, to help him communicate the concerns of the people to the elected Government.
Speaking to reporters outside Tanjong Pagar MRT station, the presidential candidate said the
council would have 10 to 20 people who would evaluate those issues most important to
ordinary Singaporeans, as well as possible solutions.
These would include rising costs of living, HDB policy and other such bread and butter issues.
In addition, a panel of volunteers - experts in the area under discussion - would discuss and
vote on the strength of certain policy ideas, in what Mr Tan suggested could be a mini-referendum.
