Those Samsters in our 50s and 60s can attest to dozing off in front of the laptop or TV at work or at home in the afternoon. I cannot imagine feeling drowsy while driving a cab or PHV on our expressways.

I once encountered a 70 years old taxi uncle driving on expressway around 4pm off peak hours. The car camera showed his car was out of the middle lane line and encroaching into the fastest lane on the right. Sway sway I kenna hit at the rear corner when I past his taxi on the left and my car went spinning in circles till it hit a concrete road divider and stopped. Bonnet & windscreen smashed. Air bag activated. Luckily, camera showed the hit or otherwise TP and many drivers would have thought my car went out of control and started to spin. As it was a highly rated safety continental car, I escaped with 1 week of pain in the chest due to air bag. Otherwise, I would have gone to see my maker thanks to him dozing while driving.

Whenever I see a cab, PHV or rental car wavering in front of me, I become extra cautious. Such cars are likely to be manned by seniors, the fatigued or individuals who seldom drive. Keep a safe distance because switching lanes may not be wise when a sleepy driver is likely to veer into your path.

If grandfather driving non full day to do errands, it is still acceptable as long as they are tested to be fit to be on the road for a while.
However, when one drives non stop, those above 50s will know nodding off during office hours is common when one ages.

As you pointed out, there is a big difference between grandfathers who ferry their grandchildren to and from school and elderly taxi and PHV drivers. Another scary group are office workers who moonlight as PHV drivers in the evenings. I had the misfortune of being in a PHV driven by fatigued drivers in the early hours of the morning from the airport, on 2 occasions. Both explained that they were fatigued, owing to holding a day job and lacked sleep, but assured my family that they were able to control their cars.

Then again, does the CS care about putting people on high risk? Thats why no alternative parties checking and stopping the CS from allowing these moonlighters
to endanger peoples' lives like you while taking PHV.

Operators of taxis and PHVs check the driving history of their drivers. Those with excessive demerit points or a history of reckless driving are routinely rejected by rental fleets because of commercial insurance restrictions. However, a driver with a safe track record can easily turn into a dangerous one when he falls asleep at the wheel.
