My father MM Lee is well and fine, will start travelling soon: PM Lee

After mourning... The first thing for MM to do is travelling! Is Sinkapore so bored a place to rest & recover?

The travelling is to show everyone that MM is strong, vigorous and in control. It is the same reason why Chairman Mao repeatedly felt the need to swim across the Yangtze.

The use of the word "frail" is puzzling. If you are trying to tell everyone MM is ok, why would you use that word? Unless of course MM doesn't look so good so you are moderating expectations about just how healthy he is.

Silverfox,

This is no dream. This is right from the horse mouth, talking about the need to look for the 4th PM for this GE. Renewal process is normal but it is not usual for someone else trying to push for it, except the PM himself.

No hypothesis, just plain and simple.

GCT said there is a need to prepare for the next PM, doesn't mean he thinks the PM should be replaced.

When you do something, you must always have a plan B to prepare when plan A fails. Like a successor. When a prince succeeds the king, does it mean the king is lousy? You read too much into a story and think too much over a very small issue.

When GCT talked "peanuts", most ppl think he is senile. So if its selective reading, now you think he has a message in his speech? Wow, can be a script writer with very good imagination. A bit like what Temasek Review has been doing all these while. Script writing.

Silverfox,

I can understand all that but it is unusual for political protocol for GCT to say it. I would fully understand it if LHL said it himself.

As I have said before, LHL or even LKY didn't say it outright during GCT's PMship that it is time to have new PM. Nobody even dares to suggest or say it publicly during LKY's PMship.

Replacement of PM is NO SMALL MATTER. It is of National Concern because it involves the possibility of change in policy directions etc.

The PM can say it is time for Minister A or B or C to retire for new ones to take up position, but NOT THE OTHER WAY ROUND because it will undermine the authority of the PM. This is just basic political protocol.

This might explain why although MM's health might not be so good, he feels the need to force himself to take a trip to show to everyone that he is strong, vigorous and in control.

I don't think he is keen to go down that route. Though he has been interested in politics, its not the PAP brand that he is after. Note he rarely grabs the political limelight unlike Viv or Ng.

His socialist makeup suggest that a team approach and not leadership style though I think he is smart and more importantly calm when making a decision.

If race wasn't an issue, I think Tharman has the potential to make a good PM.
He has good qualities. Just my views. One of the few who deserves to be paid well coz he sure can make that amount of money in the private sector.

OSA case was a mistake. The original leak did not come from Tharman's office but it came from MTI chief statistician who told a Business Times Journalist.

When the flash report first appeared in BT, PS MTI notified his boss, the current PM who called in ISD, (his birthright as it appears though not the appropriate authority) PS had an axe to grind with the chief statistician (a HKer) and wanted him done badly.

ISD to it's credit realised that tghey can't do it ISD way - ie detain without trial and actually did a Police investigation. As they were not familiar with Police investigation, they read the manuals and relied on American Cops TV show and went to Magistrate Court to apply for search warrants to execute at SPH offices. The magistrate of course was done because in most cases in Singapore don't need a search warrant but the appropriate rank based authority that is only verbal.

Before I carry on rambling. here is the long and short of it. It led to Manu, Patrick, Ken, Tharman etc to the dock. Only later did it emerge that flash had already been released but PS did not correct it and his little campaign not revealed. When it the fan, midst of trial , too late for image

- trial carried on
- GCT told SPH journalists covering his Boeing seattle visit in a close door session that he will make it up to their colleagues
- Lim Kim San, chair of SPH was told not to appeal and he gave instructions to that effect. All bills paid.
- PS sacked and went to HK to work for Sum Cheong Piling as he was blacklisted
- as promised, all rehabilitatd.
- Tharman double promotion , moved to Admin scheme , fasting rising superstar and groomed by LHL, the person who called ISD.
- Manu given board positions in GLC
- overzealous DJ1 Richard Magnus who thought like Sam Sinnathurai who was elevated to the High Court Bench over Tan Wah Piow case actually mentioned amended the charge and convicted him did not go anywhere.
- law introduced to allow convictions spent and now all those convicted have their convictions erased.
- PS rehired in F&N subsidiary, a lowly role after his time in the wilderness. PS was in same scholar cohort as LHL.

Nobody wants to recall the incident.

Agreed. I always wondered, though, if there's more than meets the eye in his OSA conviction. Either there's an interesting backstory to the conviction, or he really screwed up but was brilliant enough to make it back to the top despite it. Or perhaps the OSA thing was really no big deal anyway.

Hmm.... this PS of MTI, why would he has an axe to grind with the Chief Statistician? You mean we have a HKer as our Chief Statistician? Is he Singapore citizen or not?

The reason he travels is that he has extensive commitment as he sits on a number of advisory boards. They are all prior commitments. He honestly thinks that the world needs him and it is his opportunity to sell Singapore. Most of those who seek his participation are looking for favours and networking opportunities. Illusions of grandeur.

Very different from Mao where the faithful who were in the millions had to see Mao as there were no other dogma other than him. Singaporeans on the hand just endure the old man.

You ask any Singaporean in the street where old man is and they would not have a clue and they don't see any reason to know that information. They want to know about HDB resale value, if Lim Swee Sway cried again, Jack Neo's location etc.

Agree. Agree. Agree.

I thought MM was Singapore's national treasure and the PAP's most lethal politcal weapon. That's why we are paying him $3 mil plus a year even though he is way past the legal retirement age.

So are those advisory boards serving Singapore's interests or his own personal empire?
