This morning, just a while ago, before I reached office, I got into an altercation with an elderly man outside the Bugis MRT station. He was blowing his nose on the grass patch beside the pavement walk. His mucus was dripping all over onto the grass and walkway. I told him nicely not to do that as it was unhygienic to others who have to use the walkway. Instead of appreciating my kind advice, he went berserk and started fisting and uttered a whole range of Knn lingo at me. I just walked off.

Why can't these old people learn to be more considerate to fellow human beings?

did you encounter some of these uncles?

ah neh spits further, more accurately, and in a narrower stream. won't drool nor spray all over the pavement.

I am still wondering whether I was a kaypo for doing what I did.

Yes.

I even offered my tissue packet to him to keep and use. Instead he shouted some hokkien words telling me to buzz off.
he must be pissed he's not getting anything out of his cpf. please give him a break as he's sucked dry but is willing to donate his last ounce of bodily fluid to the grass patch. it probably is dry and requires some "watering".

It's unhygienic. With so many public education campaigns over the years, hasn't these elderly learn about public hygiene?

please understand they are the "lost" generation, not "pioneer", not "senior", not "post-war", not "boomer", but "lost". born in and around ww2, little to no education, low paying jobs, grow up in filth and slums, and when they realize it, 69 years have passed by and there's nothing to show for except their spit and anger at society, or anyone who tells them how to behave. the only way to calm them is an ice cold beer with prc mei mei "fawning" over them, thinking they have a fortune in cpf.:geek:

Happens all over the world. You can either scowl and walk away or you can put him in his place.

Such people were born in the 1950s to 1960s. During that time, if your family was a little more well off compared to others, male kids were pampered to a significant degree and thus grew up spoilt. That old man is from that generation where some male kids even are exempt from NS if they are too pampered and cannot cope with the stresses of military life. They were raised by scum, they grew up to be scum, and they have remained scum.

I would just way away. He will be beaten up one day by a decent chap who is able to right wrongs. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

That doesn't mean or excuse them from such idiotic behavior and practice.

Thanks for your kind advice. When I confronted him nicely this morning, I wasn't looking for an altercation. I just wanted to tell him nicely and offer him a packet of tissue so that he can learn and practise good hygiene.

to some it's a lifestyle and accepted by millions. it's 2nd nature. even multi-million dollar players and coaches in major league baseball do it in front of tv and millions of fans. it's part of tradition and decorum in such a wealthy sport. it started with chewing tobacco and spitting it out anywhere on the field, followed by chewing gum, and now when they become multi-millionaires 6.9 times over they chew sunflower seeds and spit them out as the sunflower seed is a healthier alternative to tobacco and chewing gum. some players who don't chew anything spit anyways as the action of spitting relieves their anxiety and nerves during a game. that old uncle you chided must have had seen a lau virgin hokkien bu ugly like f*ck ahead of you and couldn't stand the sight, thus one big "p'tui!"

I guess so. One cannot teach an old dog new tricks. Sigh.
