Too much nonsense as it depends on who the cleric is. As far as i know, only prohibition on animals is prohibition on consuming flesh of swine. Even that got blown out of proportion into no touching and cannot even see or have swine dolls.

Was flying domestic from Izmir Airport to Nevsehir (Cappadocia). 2 Turkish women (separately) brought their lap dogs in a small bag and were allowed to board the plane with their dogs. Not a peep from the mostly Turkish passengers.

In Canakkale I saw Turks walking their dogs in the evening along the sidewalks. Also noticed that all the stray dogs were tagged behind the ear with a chip recording their government-provided vaccinations. They were fed by municipal workers; all were in good health.

Came back to Singapore and just couldn't figure out the hysteria about dogs among Muslims in Singapore and Malaysia. Religion in some ways does stunt one's ability to think. (Am a dog-lover by the way, and in many ways dogs are better than humans - their steadfastness, loyalty, lack of deception, and unconditional love for their owners even in the face of abuse. What you see is what you get with dogs - they just don't know how to fake it.)
