Mauritanian academic Muhammad Al-Mukhtar Al-Shinqiti, an associate professor of political ethics and history of religion at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Doha, Qatar, said in a May 22, 2026 episode of The Thinking Muslim podcast that Western liberal societies possess strong institutions but are weak at the individual level.
Al-Shinqiti said that changing these societies would require “a whole cultural revolution, if we use the Chinese terminology.” He added that the only “salvation” for Western liberal societies would be mass conversion to Islam, which he said would transform their culture and provide people with a new motivation and vision for life.
