SINGAPORE : A shoplifter has been slapped with more jail time after he tried to hide drugs in his shoe when he appeared in the Subordinate Courts.

20-year-old Malaysian national Leong Kam Loong was scheduled to appear in court in February last year for stealing a car alarm valued at nearly S$600.

While in court, Leong was physically checked by a police officer in the court's lockup area.

The officer found a slab of ten tablets of controlled drug Nimetazepam in the insole of Leong's right shoe.

Leong has been sentenced to 3 months' jail and fined S$700 for the two offences - one day and S$700 fine for theft and 3 months for drugs, both running concurrently. - CNA/jy
