Addressing some 250 delegates at the opening of the World
Cities Summit Mayors Forum held in Bilbao, Spain yesterday (14 Jun), National
Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan slammed Singaporean youths for their
“anti-immigration” stance.

Noting that the 21st century has seen much change, Mr Khaw said many feel
“unsettled”, “anxious” and even “suspicious”.

“Some of our youths are losing optimism, as they remain unemployed or
under-employed for months or years. Some of our people have taken on an
anti-immigration stance as they blame foreigners for their all their problems.
If this leads to an anti-globalisation mood, the world will be poorer for it,”
he said.

With rapid changes in technology and globalisation, people worldwide and not
just in Singapore are becoming concerned about their job prospects and greater
competition.

Mr Khaw said it is down to the governments to steer their economies in the
right direction and inspire their people.

Governments must show “strong leadership” and “inspire confidence in their
people”, he added.

He also urged cities to continuously transform themselves to stay
relevant.

He said change is part of the process that enables cities to rejuvenate and
to revitalise themselves but cities must manage change sensitively to enable
their people to feel that their lives have become better with change.

He added, “Technology will continue to prop up to assist us in how to run the
economy in a more sustainable way. Another good example is traffic, cars.
Technology in that area will change and we hope there will be more electric
cars”

250 delegates at the opening of the World Cities Summit Mayors Forum and he
mentions about us blaming foreigners. Shame on him. How dare he say such a
thing.

The fact is we are blaming their screwed up policies.

We are all a racially tolerant people, one of the best places in the world,
so to accuse us of being anti foreigner is just revolting.

Any country has their immigration policy , and they put their citizens first
before any others.

Have they dont enough for us? or have they sold out and put others first.

THe government has failed at regulating the housing market, and any foreigner
from china with billions can just buy property here.

The government has failed at regulating the car prices.

They have failed in maintaining a good rail system, having problems for the
last 2-3 years.

They have cracks when it comes to integrity.

And Yet, their pay are higher than any other government personell in the
WORLD? How do you explain that?

If they failed at so many levels, how do they justify their pay.

This very MP once told us that they make a loss building HDB. Yet he is still
in office for so long? He should excuse himself from office immediately.

What a joke!

Having shown his inability to command respect for his policies and views,
this civil servant turned half-baked and half-past-six politician continues to
antagonise true-blue Singaporeans with childish remarks like the one above.
Right in front of a world audience, he seems to take pleasure sabotaging our
young Singaporeans, more or less implying our youths are a defeatist lot. A
Singapore minister screwing Singaporeans before foreigners!

Both his conduct and the criticism are totally uncalled for. Firstly, the
immigration issue is much more complex than the way that Khaw has cursorily
dismissed as an “anti-“ stance by unemployed youths. Instead of sympathising
with young Singaporeans finding it hard to get jobs and acting to rectify the
situation, he described them as “pessimistic” and “anti-globalisation”.
Presumably not worthy of his time and attention. What kind of minister or leader
is this?

Secondly, Singaporeans are NOT and have NEVER been anti-immigration. What
they are against is the almost sneaky opening of the floodgate to foreigners
during the last few years which was undertaken without approval from the
electorate. The PAP tried to force it down the throats of locals!

Khaw is spot on. Singaporeans are not good enough to compete in the international areana. Singapore needs more foreign talent from China, people with superior work ethics, culture and skills, to give Singapore a leg up else Singapore will dengenerate into shit holes like Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Kenya.

Well said. I have added to your points.

Mr Cow, a naturalized sinkee, is a traitor to his adopted country. He is selling sinkees out. Unlike sinkees born here, Mr Cow has always got a place to return to in the events things don't work out for him in his adopted land.

Meanwhile, he is milking the taxpayers to the tune of tens of millions.

So, Mr. Cow, if you are true patriot, you will stand up for sinkees against the foreign invaders. Otherwise, you are a traitor.

Foreign talents? Goodness gracious ...of the 2.3 millions foreigners here, how many of those are truly talents? They are here because they are cheap. The PAP ministers being paid millions can't even come out with an economic growth plan that can raise the standard of living for sinkees. So, it is back to forcing wages down approach.

When the new government takes over in 2016, naturalized traitors like Mr. Cow should be charged. And I won't shed a tear if he gets the death penalty.
