SINGAPORE : Channel NewsAsia is receiving reports of train delays on the North-South Line again.

One commuter tweeted to say that he is stuck between Raffles and City Hall stations.

Another said he is stuck at Raffles station and that the train is not moving.

One viewer told Channel NewsAsia that her sister was stuck in the train for half an hour at Bishan station.

She said the train was jerking and eventually made its way slowly to Ang Mo Kio station.

Another commuter said she heard an announcement at Orchard station that the delay in train services is "because of a fault".

Passengers there were asked to get off the train.

There are also reports of commuters stuck at Braddell station.

The East-West Line also looks to have been affected, with passengers reporting delays near Bedok and Tanah Merah stations.

The people already practiced at Aljunied GRC, the rest of SINgapore, needs more practice. You pay for an expensive car with extremely expensive COE, & your mechanic find, 21 screws & nuts missing & 13 components old & aged; worse the car is new. You are paying too much for rubbish.

SINGAPORE : A fault on a northbound train is believed to have caused some delays for commuters at around 7pm on Monday evening.

The train was travelling towards the Orchard station when it experienced a fault.

Commuters were asked to get off the train at Orchard MRT station.

Channel NewsAsia understands that this train then had to be towed back to the depot.

This is believed to be what caused the delays along some stretches.

One commuter tweeted to say that he was stuck between Raffles and City Hall stations.

Another said he was stuck at Raffles Place station and that the train was not moving.

One viewer told Channel NewsAsia that her sister was stuck in the train for half an hour between Braddell and Bishan stations.

There were also tweets about the East-West Line being affected - with passengers reporting delays near Bedok and Tanah Merah stations.

Channel NewsAsia spoke to some of the hotline callers, some of whom had their loved ones held up - as running trains had to make way for the faulty train to inch back towards the depot.

A caller, Andrew, said: "When she reached City Hall, the train was delayed about seven to eight minutes...and getting in the train was like a huge football match, people pushing and shoving. And when she reached Dhoby Ghaut, the train stopped again for seven to eight minutes."

SINGAPORE: The train disruptions over the weekend did not dampen the sales for malls located near MRT stations.

The Orchard Road Business Association reported that malls along Singapore's shopping belt saw a five per cent rise in sales, compared to the same period last year.

Some outlets at Orchard Xchange, a shopping belt located one level above Orchard MRT, saw business soar as much as 20 per cent.

Orchard Road Business Association executive director Steven Goh said: "Despite the train disruptions and the wet weather, the sales are not affected. In fact, some of the departmental stores reported better sales than last year's."

Mr Goh said the train disruptions also meant tourists staying in the city could not travel out of the central district, and had no choice but to do their shopping there.

Meanwhile, retailers in Junction 8 near Bishan MRT station said they did not see any drop in the crowds over the weekend.

Your Style Boutique sales executive Shirley Lim said: "Sales was better this weekend because people were stuck in the MRT and they can't proceed anywhere else, so they came in and shopped around."

Some shoppers said they would shop at malls near their homes instead of heading for the city, as they did not want to worry about the frequency of train services.

Public relations professional Yeo Wee Kiat said: "For the short term, I'd probably prefer to shop at the nearby malls because I don't want to take the risk of the trains breaking down again."

Major mall owners Channel NewsAsia spoke to said they were largely unaffected as shoppers needing to pick up gifts for Christmas will still find alternative ways to get to their mall of choice.

Frasers Centrepoint Malls, which manages malls including Centrepoint, Causeway Point and Northpoint, told Channel NewsAsia the train closure and rainy weather may have had a slight dampening effect on shoppers making their way to town.

However, the group still sees shoppers thronging its malls during the last weekend before Christmas.

Meanwhile, AsiaMalls Management, which manages malls including Century Square, Hougang Mall, Tampines 1 and White Sands, said their businesses were not affected by the disruptions.

AsiaMalls Management general manager Stephanie Ho told Channel NewsAsia their malls "did not experience any noticeable drop in footfall traffic over the past three days".
