MRT track intruder charged: Lui
SINGAPORE: A man who allegedly intruded onto the MRT tracks of the North-South Line was charged in court on Apr 28.
The incident, which disrupted MRT services, took place near the Choa Chu Kang MRT station on Feb 27. The man was seen walking on the viaduct between Choa Chu Kang station and Bukit Gombak in the evening, disrupting train services twice.
In a written parliamentary response on Monday (May 11), Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said SMRT has strengthened the perimeter fencing between Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Gombak stations, to reduce the likelihood of such intrusions in the future. SMRT has also enhanced inspections of all at-grade tracks.
Mr Lui said the Public Transport Security Committee, which comprises Government agencies and public transport operators, is also implementing several other measures. They include installing crash-rated bollards and strengthening structures against forced entry.
