I do not want to be accused by some SMRT director of looking for a free ride when the system is down.

East West Train broke down this morning around 9am. JE station was in total chaos with staff frantically chasing commuters out of empty trains and giving confusion announcements over the speakers, which could hardly be heard.

Bukit Panjang LRT broke down around 7.15pm at CCK. Dunno why there's lots of those Special Unit guys there too. Commuters were all cramped into the train with annoucements every now and then saying that trains will be delayed due to a track fault. Quite a number of commuters got fed up and went off to take alternative means of transport.

Today is my lucky day. Went out early to catch a morning meeting and in the end, still miss it. Came home early and kenna the LRT breakdown........but how come never strile the 1.5 million Toto?

None of these breakdowns were reported today.

SINGAPORE: Train service on the East-West Line between Jurong East and Joo Koon stations was delayed on Thursday morning due to a train fault.

Operator SMRT said that this started at about 8.30am, when an eastbound train experienced a train fault and was withdrawn as a safety precaution.

Passengers on board were asked to alight at Jurong East Station.

The train travelling behind the stalled train was used to help send it back to the depot.

This affected service between Jurong East and Joo Koon stations, in both directions.

Passengers at these stations would have experienced a delay of 20 to 30 minutes.

SMRT said the high train frequencies during the rush hour can lead to congestion when there is a train fault.

To minimise the impact of the service delay, some trains were turned around at Jurong East, Clementi and Queenstown MRT stations for the eastbound service.

Announcements were made at the affected stations and trains, while commuters were kept informed through Traffic Watch via radio stations and SMRT's Twitter account.

SMRT has apologised for the inconvenience caused.

Make this a sticky thread. Every breakdown counts.

I don't know if it was a breakdown or not - but the Circle Line MRT was super crowded this evening - I reached Tai Seng MRT at 6.20pm (towards bishan) - but could only get aboard at 6.40pm, as there were hordes of humans waiting to board. The automated announcement kept pleading for people to "wait for the next train" - well, I did wait - 6 trains to pass before I could board.

Ok, this is the 1st time in a long time I took the train, so a bit suaku - is this the new normal? Or could it have been due to a breakdown somewhere?

Even without breakdown, the train stations are super crowded during peak hours. Yes, it's the new normal.

Shocked !

Is the Circle Line train carriages fewer or were they shorter just to save money ? I thought I saw it wrongly ? Very small train, right ? Does this mean NE Line ones are not the shortest ?

The signboards are VERY confusing AND invisible with many languages all cramp together. Going out without a car may be unthinkable. And the cock LTA tells us to use public transport to alleviate the road situation. Got better meh ?

COE is actually corruption according to the edict issued by the so-called 'republic' government. Next time they should also sell posts for Minister of Defence, Education, etc. like the useless and backward Ching Dynasty.

买个官职做,吧!Big money ! Big money !

They tilted her sedan chair & dropped her, but her 'taichi' move was too slow to break the fall, should have taken uo Shaolin Kung Fu. Drama lah, drama, all the while can strut around, now come in crutches, strange isn't?

something to add on, if you take smrt taxis, look at their touch screen terminal which is made in china, i suspect that they have been conned, probably, the china supplier gave them grade B touch screens..tsk...tsk...

why i know cos' i know the tricks china suppliers play, they can have 2 batches of lcds and will give you the grade B and sell off the better quality grade A. i used to drive for smrt taxis and already noticed that their touch screens are inferior to other touch screens from other companies' cabs.

I check the papers overseas as I am overseas. There are no reports whatever so of any MRT breakdowns. It is because the Straits Times are careful in their reporting or do not allow rights of the MRT reports to be published.

I remember 10 years when the Bangkong MRT breakdown a few times, and the ST reported so much. It even came up in the news all over the world of the concern of the Thais with their new transport. But when the Singapore MRT break down more than 10 times, there is not even a news, nor did anyone notice. You can tell the Singapore news filtering is really good.

No news. SMRT and Mediacock,SPH try to cover up.

Coroner's inquiry: Why wasn't gate that crushed guard fixed earlier?

THE faulty motor in the automatic gate had not been replaced, despite six months having passed. And that delay may have claimed a life.

Mr Ong Yue Hing, 55, died when the 10m by 3m gate, weighing around 900kg, fell on him.

It was his first day at work, and Mr Ong was manually closing the gate of the Sengkang North-East Line depot with a colleague when it fell on him around 7.20pm on March 15 last year.

Mr Ong died about four hours later in hospital.

At a coroner’s inquiry yesterday morning, State Coroner Imran Abdul Hamid asked investigating officer Ang Gim Chye from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) when the gate motor was replaced.

6 month! What MRT doing? How difficult is it to repair the gate. Maybe few day if get someone to repair.
Hope the Family will sue the MRT for few million $$$. Or close the depot until case is over.
