Saw the above report? Know what it means? It means that we are expected to be Number One all the time. But to be Number One, we need the people to be Number One too. So all policies of the various ministries are tuned for Singaporeans to be Number One. Ministry of Education included.

If you look back at our past, have we not had quite a few Number Ones at international level? Our airport, sea port, national carrier. We were even at one stage the third largest oil refining centre in the world. Not to mention our shipbuilding and repair industry in the 1970s and 1980s. Have not our govt always been obsessed with being the best of the best in the world?

Cant have the cake and eat it too.
Being #1 and higher standard of living compared to our neighbours comes with the stress.
There is no free lunch.

And other countries will catch up and upstage us as #1 ...once we slacken, then we become FT is those countries and once there are too my Singaporeans working and driving properties prices up, they kick us out. What comes around goes around. It may not happen now but is a possibility in the future.
