They will play historical chinese figures in skits as part of programme.
Seven finalists will battle it out this Sunday at the grand finals of the Chinese Challenge.
Five of them in the Open Category come from various walks of life. They are: an executive in the finance industry, an enthusiastic retiree, an administrator, a Chinese teacher and a new immigrant. One common thread linking them is their appreciation for the Chinese language.
For the first time, two students will also compete as a team in the grand finals.
The finalists will stand to win the grand prize of S$10,000 worth of cash and prizes.
A highlight of the televised programme this Sunday will be appearances by eleven Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and Members of Parliament, playing roles in skits as well as displaying their language skills in poetry reading.
Co-presented with Tote Board, Business China and The Chinese Language and Culture Fund, The Chinese Challenge was launched on 6 July in conjunction with the launch of the Speak Mandarin Campaign 2010. The objective of the initiative is to showcase the finest in Chinese language and culture through an online quiz over a 6-week duration.
The evening will also honour six schools for the Highest Average Score and Highest Participation Rate during the campaign.
The Chinese Challenge 2010 Grand Finals will be telecast on September 26, 8 pm-10 pm on Channel 8.
