Two years ago, WHO declares Monkeypox as PHEIC, and primarily passed by men having sex with men. The latest update is that it is caused by a virus thought to normally infect African rodents such as rats and squirrels, not really from monkeys. It was first isolated from monkeys, to clear the misconception, it was renamed "Mpox".
Updates - Why worry about Mpox
In the past two years, most cases outside Africa were linked to sexual contacts.
Technically, Mpox's transmission is not proven to be airbone.
However, the current massive outbreak in Africa (including close contacts and children) hints that it could be spread through respirator particles; isolation of the infected is strongly advised. Over 500 dead in Democratic Republic of Congo in the past six months. WHO could not pinpoint why >80% of the deaths were young children below 15.
