The Mayor post is a joke. Firstly unlike most mayoral post around the World, this one is a political appointment and not elected. The people have no stake in him. Secondly it has not distinct defined role and responsibility. Even the President of a social club like SCC has to campaign, is elected and has responsibility or he will be kicked out by an EOGM. The responsibility that the role has can be done by reasonably paid admin.

You could put the late Ah Meng in that role and nothing would change. Except that people would enjoy watching the Ah Meng and it will be delight for the kids.
