Member of Parliament (MP) for Aljunied Group Representation Constituency (GRC) Sylvia Lim was invited as the Guest of Honour to open the 4th Congress of the Pan-Asian Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (PACTRIMS) on Sunday 28 August 2011 (Sunday) at the Raffles City Convention Centre.

More than 200 doctors and scientists, as well as sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis, attended the congress. In her remarks, she noted the value of PACTRIMS in promoting greater awareness and an exchange of data and ideas for better treatment of MS. She also joined patients in a session with experts to better understand the plight of those suffering from this disease which disproportionately affected women and had effects on vision, the spine and the central nervous system.

Not bad... invitations to events like this raise the profile and image of opposition MPs... signals a shift from the times where any contact with opposition were avoided like plaque

Yes, there is a different normal now. In the days of old, they'd have invited the Minister for Health or Parl Sec for Health or Perm Sec for Health. If those are not available, they might ask the MP of the area. And if that one is not available, then no GOH.

Didn't CapitaLand tell their tenants that events held there can't have opposition MPs invited? :D

$8 Khaw : "Cheh, they actually invited me one. But since this event is on a public holiday, I told the organisers to go fly kite. My employment contract says Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays."

I think our Health minster must have been too busy to attend.

Well Done to Sylvia and the Workers Party.. Kudos to the organisers for inviting an Opposition MP to grace their event.. This bodes well for the future of the Opposition especially the Workers Party...International events like these will raise their profiles tremendously... All in all, the future is bright for the Hammers..

Didn't gahment tell their citizens that events held here can't have opposition MPs invited?:D
