1. He was a MP for so long and attended Istana functions. Why didn't he bring this up as a MP? Was he so out of touch that it took him this long to realize any disquiet?

The answer is obvious, isn't it. When he's MP, it's alright for PMO to be in Istana for all he cared. But if he's President, he wants to kick them out.

Unlike British and Thai etc. monarchies where the royals own the palaces, Singapore Istana is owned by the government. TCB must be deluded to think presidency comes with Istana land title deed.

Poor Tony, you the purportedly smarter guy had been out maneuvered, and the MSM following their instincts is amplifying that lack of wisdom.
Tan Cheng Bock has shown his hand for strategy. Looks promising to me that he will be the sagely moral guide to his PM and cabinet ministers. Simply he is likely to be able to stay ahead of them sagaciously and morally.
